Last night I was looking at my Soul Book.
It was the very first class I ever took with Brave Girls Club.
It’s a little different because you actually make the book from beginning to end. You measure and cut cardboard, you bind it, you tape it, you cover the pages and you end up with a beautiful book. At least you are supposed to.
Directions are not always my strongest suit and somehow I made a mess of my book. My pages are different sizes, they don’t line up correctly, and when you put the ribbon around the book it won’t lay flat or stand up because it’s lopsided and crooked. It sounds awful, right? However, I did not want to start over so I just kept going. I finished my book and I keep it out where it’s easy for me to find.
Every few months I take my Soul Book off the shelf and I read it, and when I open it, those beautiful words inside it make me forget that it doesn’t close well, or look pretty on the shelf because what’s inside that book reminds me of all the things I want for my life. It reminds me to love more and forgive people and extend grace cards. It reminds me that my story isn’t over yet. It reminds me of all the things I am working on and it also shows me how far I have come. It reminds me that I am not perfect…and I don’t have to be.
We are all like that book. We are made with love. We are full of love.
We aren’t perfect on the outside. Our lives don’t always turn out the way we wanted them to or the way we planned for them to. We all make mistakes and that’s how we learn. We need to take the time to talk to people and listen, and care, and show compassion and we all need to take the time to look beyond the imperfections of ourselves and others. We all have a story and everyone’s story is unique and different but taking the time to tell our story and taking the time to listen is worth it….because the inside is always so much better than the outside.
It’s worth it.
